Arguably one of the most essential beekeeping tools – how well do you really operate your smoker?
Look it’s not my strength but I think I need to make it one. Preparing and operating your smoker efficiently, effectively and safely is critical to minimise issues for you and your bees. We have scoured the interwebs to bring you some excellent information from beekeepers who are willing to share and explain what they do with their smoker.
This has been broken down into these three high quality links:
How to light your smoker so that it lasts for hours (excellent for the newbees).
How to make your own bee smoke fuel (this is getting fancy)
Deep cleaning your smoker (I’ve done it using Sarah’s method and it works great)
I promise to get better at packing and preparing my smoker fuel and I hope you do to. Not only will that make it easier and less problematic in the middle of a hive inspection so you don’t run out of good quality smoke it will also be much better for the bees. That fact alone is worth trying a little bit harder.
